With the number of confimed cases of the coronavirus expected to hit 150,000 in Michigan this week, hospitals are getting ready with plans for another surge. Michigan Health & Hospital Association CEO Brian Peters says everyone in the health care industry learned a lot from the earlier wave that hit this spring.

“In many instances throughout the state surge plans came in to effect during the peak of the pandemic earlier this year. I think the experience of that that we we have an opportunity to learn from will certainly serve us if there is in fact a second search later in the year.”

Late last week there were 1,000 people receiving treatment for the coronavirus in hospitals throughout the state. Just over 7,000 Michigan residents have died. The Department of Health and Human Services reports 109,000 residents have recovered from the virus.
