The COVID-19 pandemic will enable more people to take part in an annual walk to improve the lives of people with Huntington’s disease. Sara Boers, a Kalamazoo area Huntington’s disease support group facilitator, tells WSJM News they’re holding a virtual walk on October 18 to raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

“Families, friends, anybody that has an interest in helping to support Hunting’s disease patients, will do their own walk,” Boers said. “We’ll be Facetiming a few walkers.”

Normally, they hold the walk in person in Augusta, Michigan, but since this is virtual, anyone can take part, either in their neighborhood, in the woods, or even on a treadmill. Boers says Huntington’s disease is a neurological condition that causes a person to gradually lose mental functioning. Anyone who wants to be part of the walk can register online.
