A Benton Township man is charged with attempted murder after a crash on Tuesday night. The Benton Township Police Department says officers were called out to a home in the 1600 block of Kay Drive around 9:20 p.m. on a report of a person in distress when they spotted a Jeep Cherokee speeding away from the home. An officer then saw the Jeep driving recklessly on South Euclid and followed it as it swerved in and out of traffic, passing vehicles, and going too fast. The Jeep crashed into a high voltage power line antenna tower near Euclid and East Britain. The driver was found to be 38-year-old Yoshurn McClinton of Benton Township. His passenger was identified as 51-year-old Theresa Wade of Benton Harbor. Wade was wedged in the front passenger seat and had to be freed by the Benton Township Fire Department. Wade and McClinton were both taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland hospital, and Wade was later transferred to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for chest and back injuries. Police learned McClinton had intentionally crashed the vehicle. He was taken to the Berrien County Jail for attempted murder and an alcohol offense.
