It’s almost time for the next Adopt A Highway clean-up in Michigan. Dan Weingarten with the Michigan Department of Transportation tells WSJM News the final clean-up of the year starts this Saturday with a wide variety of community groups picking up trash along the sections of road they’ve adopted.

“There are over 2,7000 groups, and typically we get dozens of people in each one of these groups,” Weingarten said. “They can range in size from as few as three or four people to several dozen.”

Weingarten says the groups pick up more than 60,000 bags of trash along the state’s roads each year. Drivers should be on the lookout beginning Saturday for volunteers wearing yellow-green safety vests. Anyone interested in signing up to be part of the volunteer program can go to Michigan.gov/AdoptAHighway.
