Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared August Immunization Awareness Month as the state urges everyone to make sure they are getting all of their recommended vaccines, and also that their children get all of their vaccines. Speaking this week, the governor urged Michiganders to get the flu vaccine this year.

“Preventing the flu will help us save lives and preserve the healthcare resources we will need this fall to continue fighting COVID-19,” Whitmer said.

Additionally, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched its own flu vaccine campaign, Facing the Flu Together, that encourages Michiganders to get vaccinated. The state’s I Vaccinate campaign is also working to educate residents about the safety of vaccines. Whitmer says getting the flu vaccine this year will be especially helpful as hospitals fear overcrowding.
