The Justice Department is asking for information from the Whitmer administration on state orders requiring nursing homes to admit COVID-19 positive patients. Attorney General Dana Nessel said she thinks it’s a politically motivated effort that is targeting only Democratic governors.

“I strongly believe and maintain that Governor Whitmer has done an incredible job of containing the virus here in Michigan,” says Nessel. “We were hit so hard initially. I’ve seen estimates that Governor Whitmer’s orders saved in the neighborhood of 50,000 to 75,000 Michiganders.”

The DOJ request is asking for the number of public nursing home residents, employees, guests and visitors who tested positive for COVID-19, as well as the number who died from COVID-19. Whitmer says they will get the information, but also expressed her displeasure.
