The Berrien County Health Department says the county has been showing a steady rate of new COVID-19 cases of about eleven per day for the past two weeks with a 3% positivity rate on tests performed. In its weekly COVID update, the department reports low levels of hospitalizations in the county and “very few deaths over the last several weeks.” Additionally, the department says the “best available evidence indicates COVID-19 poses a relatively low risk to school-aged children.” It says it will continue to work with local school districts to plan for the academic year ahead. The goal is for in-person learning to be held with as many new safety protocols as possible. As of Thursday, Berrien County had had 1,311 cases of the illness and 69 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
