The next Berrien County land auction will be on September 26, and it will be all online. Berrien County Treasurer Shelly Weich told the county board of commissioners on Thursday there will be plenty to bid on.

“This year I have roughly 190 properties,” Weich said. “I have 22 occupied structures, 19 unoccupied, and 149 lots.”

Weich said she’s working with a vendor called Tax-Sale.info to handle the online auction, and she expects information about the parcels to be online within a week.

“Bidding can begin up to 30 days prior to the auction. You can start bidding on anything, searching the properties and so forth. Then on that Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. the bidding goes live.”

Weich said there will be a required $1,000 deposit to take part in the auction, and participants will get that back after the auction if they haven’t bought anything for more than that amount. She also noted the proceeds from this auction will not be used to demolish blighted buildings this year due to a court decision out of Oakland County that limits how foreclosure proceeds can be used. There will be no demolitions done this year by the county treasurer.
