A lot of things have seen a spike in popularity in recent months because of COVID-19 as people are kept from doing their usual activities. For example, more people are riding bicycles than ever. Matt Penniman is with the League of Michigan Bicyclists, which promotes bicycling in Michigan. He spoke with Michigan News Network about what’s been going on with biking.

“There’s been a huge spike in the popularity of bicycling,” Penniman said. “I saw one statistic that 9% of American adults have gotten on a bike for the first time in at least a year.”

Penniman says they advocated for bike shops to reopen in April, which the governor allowed to happen. He says it’s hard to find new bikes, but used bikes are still out there.
