Governor Gretchen Whitmer is fighting back against claims that people in Michigan nursing homes were put at risk by putting them alongside COVID-19 patients. A common complaint against her administration is that it placed some COVID patients in long-term care facilities to recover. Whitmer spoke to Michigan News Network about the controversy this week.

“We have followed CDC guidance,” Whitmer said. “We have followed the best medicine, every decision that we have made. And because of it, our experience is not as bad as what they had in other states. We also never required that a nursing home e take a COVID-19 patient. That’s just a myth, and we’ve proven it wrong time and time again.”

The governor says those charges are being used as political attacks by Republicans, against her and other Democratic governors across the country.
