Some people in Michigan did not like that an emergency alert was put out this week to notify everyone to wear masks, per Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order. Republican state Senator Bradley Slagh of Zeeland has requested a bill to limit the use of the state’s Emergency Alert System. He spoke with Michigan News Network about the plan.

“I submitted a request to create a bill that we could take through the Legislature that would say the Emergency Alert System is designed and should only be used for true emergencies,” Slagh said. “So it’s just to limit that use for those kinds of things, not to communicate just information.”

Slagh says one of his constituents told him she shut off her emergency alert system after the alert this week. He says others were simply started when they heard those EAS tones coming out of their phones.
