State Representative Pauline Wendzel has introduced legislation intended to help state state’s licensed professionals during the pandemic. Her bill would require the state to a credit or prorate a fee on the renewal of a license if the holder of the license was forced to stop their practice because of a shutdown mandate. Wendzel says professionals like realtors, barbers, and landscape architects weren’t able to work for weeks due to the COVID shutdown. She notes those workers need a state license to operate, and yet they weren’t allowed to operate. So, she asks why they should pay for a license they couldn’t use? Under Wendzel’s plan, if an individual holds a license that costs $120 per year and Governor Whitmer shut them down for three months, they would receive a $30 credit on the renewal of their license in 2021. The bill was introduced this week in Lansing.
