Rescue crews from South Haven Area Emergency Services were out late Sunday night looking for a man who was in distress in Lake Michigan. The man went missing near North Beach around 9:20 p.m., and crews were out looking for him late into the night. Waves on the lake were up to six feet at the time and red flags were posted. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and crews from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department were brought in to assist in the search. SHAES also reports shortly before that man went missing, another person fell into the Black River Channel off of North Pier, but a nearby Samaritan tossed a life ring to the man in distress and was rescued.
