State officials say residents should take precaution as a heat wave decends on Michigan this week. Dale George is the spokesperson for the State Emergency Operations Center and says people should be careful not to become overheated, and especially avoid getting a heat stroke.

“That’s when you have extremely high body temperature of 103 degrees, hot, dry and red skin, a rapid and strong pulse, headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and of course, you could become unconscious,” George said. “If somebody is suffering from that, you want to call 911 as soon as possible to get them help.”

George says while temperatures are in the 90s this week, residents should spend time in air conditioning and drink plenty of liquids to stay hydrated. Southeast Michigan was under an ozone action day Tuesday.
