It may not be long before you can buy booze to go in Michigan and have a cocktail in a social district. Two bills passed out of the Michigan House Regulatory Reform Committee and have been referred to another committee. Mark Sellers of Barfly Ventures, which owns Hopcat restaurants, testified they need all the help they can get because of the pandemic.

“Our revenues are down about 100% because we weren’t prepared at first to do the takeout and delivery thing like Chipotle and all the fast casual restaurants do,” Sellers said. “We’re a dine-in place, and so we had to very quickly try to reinvent our business model, but we’re essentially barely able to keep the lights on right now.”

Sellers says predicts many restaurants will file for bankruptcy.
