First Church of God will hold its first in-person gathering since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic this weekend in Benton Township. On Sunday, congregants will take part in a drive-in celebration at Lake Michigan College. Lead Pastor David Colp tells WSJM News many are excited.

“Some people are really struggling,” Colp said. “They feel very isolated. They don’t have family. Maybe they’re a single person, maybe they’re elderly, maybe they’re widowed. For them to be able to come no matter what is going on, you can come and sit in your car and be part of this event, and it will be totally safe. So I’m really excited to be able to see the congregation.”

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with former state Representative Al Pscholka hosting a one hour, live streamed pre-service event followed by a pre-show party happening at 10:30. The service starts at 11.

“We’ve got a stage, we’ll have live worship, and preaching. We’ll just have a great celebration of encouragement and hope.”

Colp says they’re going to make an announcement regarding the resumption of regular in person services during the event. It will be held in one of LMC’s parking lots, and he invites everyone.
