Congressman Fred Upton wants another coronavirus relief bill. He tells WSJM News the bill introduced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week and approved by the House didn’t cut it.

“There was no outreach to Republicans, not even a phone call to our leadership from the Democratic leadership, and at the end of the day, she had the votes, it passed narrowly, but it’s a non-starter in the Senate,” Upton said.

Upton says some Republicans were concerned Pelosi’s bill would send stimulus checks to people in the country illegally. He and his Problem Solvers Caucus are working on their own coronavirus response bill, which he dubs Phase Four.

“We’re looking at hopefully having a little more assistance for small businesses as it relates to the flexibility involving the PPP, Paycheck Protection Program. Many of the small businesses were able to get a two month loan, thinking that maybe things were going to be over in two months, and of course that’s not the case.”

Upton says this bill will include more Paycheck Protection Program funding over an expanded timeline. He tells us the plan could be introduced as soon as next week.
