Governor Whitmer is creating the Michigan COVID-19 Office of Accountability inside the State Budget Office. She says it will handle oversight of all state spending to battle the pandemic.

“The accountability office will report regularly to me,” said Whitmer. “I will work closely with them to make sure we are using our resources wisely.”

Whitmer said during Monday’s COVID-19 briefing that the money spent to date has come from the state budget, philanthropic donations, and the federal government. She added Michiganders have the right to expect, especially during a crisis, that “state government will be responsible stewards of their resources.”
