The Niles History Center is asking people to submit their COVID-19 stories so they can be preserved for future generations. The city of Niles has released the following statement:

The Niles History Center has created an online form for individuals to submit their COVID-19 experiences. History Center Director Christina Arseneau explains, “We are living through a historic time. We want to document people’s stories so that we have a record.”

Museums and historical centers across the country are providing opportunities for sharing stories online. As the community’s organization dedicated to preserving the past, the Niles History Center is gathering this information from local people. Prompts and questions on the form give ideas for stories to submit.

As much of this story is still unfolding, the online form will remain up at least through the summer. Once this crisis is past, Arseneau believes recalling these experiences will remind the community of how far we have come and inspire us through challenging times in the future.

While the History Center is closed, digital content is still being offered. In addition to the online story submission, the History Center is posting historical photos and virtual field trips on its Facebook page several times a week. To submit your story, please visit the Niles History Center’s website, www.nileshistorycenter.org.
