River Valley High School is the winner of this year’s Southwest Michigan Spirit Tournament, held by state Senator Kim LaSata. She hosts the contest each year, giving high schools throughout her legislative district a chance to submit photos displaying their spirit via social media. The schools are put into March Madness-like brackets and the tournament runs for six weeks. LaSata congratulated River Valley for coming out on top, saying with school now out due to COVID-19, “the tournament was a way for Southwest Michiganders to come together in a display of school and community spirit.” The Mustangs defeated Countryside Academy in the final round, which concluded April 3.
