Mendel Center Offering Online Performance Series

The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College is offering a new online entertainment series while people are staying at home due to COVID-19. With live shows at the Mendel Center not being held at this time, the center wanted to help keep the arts alive virtually, says mainstage director Grace Kelmer.

“Our priority is to make sure that people are safe and healthy through all of this, but also we know that people are going stir crazy at home,” Kelmer said. “We are as well, even though we’re still at work. But we want to bring people something fun to look forward to that’s arts-related and also that’s propping up some of our local musicians because they’ve lost so many of their paid gigs over the next few months.”

Thursday will bring a performance by Dan Maxon, a local singer/songwriter and guitarist. Saturday’s engagement will be a Q&A with the creator of an acrobatic performance that was slated for the Mendel Center the same day. Online performances are planned through April 18, and they could add more. Kelmer says all are free to watch via the Facebook page of the Mendel Center.
