Help is now available for qualifying businesses and nonprofits in Berrien County to help make their mortgage or rent payment for April or May. Zach Vaughn is the project manager for fiscal development at Cornerstone Alliance and says they’re partnering with the Berrien Community Foundation and the Southwest Michigan Tourist Council for a zero-interest loan program for those payments for April. He tells us it came out of assistance requests through the Small Business Association.

“As small businesses started to apply and inquire about the SBA program, we noticed somewhat of a trend with the expenses that they needed satisfied,” Vaughn tells WSJM News. “We saw that rent and mortgage were definitely among those.”

There are conditions that need to be met.

“The must have a physical presence here in Berrien County,” adds Vaughn. “They must demonstrate that they have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak, and they have a rent or mortgage payment due in April and/or May.”

Full details and applications are available under the “COVID-19 Relief” tab on the Cornerstone Alliance website, GoMichigan.com. Vaughn says up to $2,000 per business or organization is available.
