The American Electric Power Foundation has announced it’s donating $240,000 in emergency funds to help communities throughout Michigan and Indiana during the COVID-19 crisis. Indiana Michigan Power’s Schnee Garrett tells WSJM News the funds will be made available to non-profits throughout I&M’s service area.

“The funds will be available to local not-for-profits that support basic human needs, things such as food, shelter, and housing assistance,” Garrett said. “It’s important to everybody at I&M that we support and help enhance the quality of life in the communities that we serve and the communities that we live in.”

Garrett says the AEP Foundation is assessing which non-profits are in need of support. In total, the foundation will donate $1.5 million to communities served by AEP in eleven states.
