With the governor limiting the size of gatherings in Michigan as part of COVID-19 response, many churches are improvising. Overflow Church Pastor Brian Bennett tells WSJM News they went into Sunday thinking services would be normal, but when the recommendations for events changed, services were offered only online. So how did it go?

“We were really encouraged,” Bennett said. “We had a really good turnout online. A number of people engaged, really good feedback in terms of the live worship and the message.”

Bennet said there were a few hundred people watching on the church’s website, and more on Facebook. He notes the church just recently got new equipment to stream.

“To be able to do that in this day and age, via online and social media, is not what we expected, but an exciting opportunity as well.”

Bennett says he thinks online services will be increasingly prevalent, especially at this difficult time. He urges everyone to use the moment created by COVID-19 to take care of those in need, adding “this could be our finest hour.” First Church of God in St. Joseph also steamed its services this past weekend.
