South Haven City Manager Brian Dissette says the city is still operating as close to normal as possible, but there are some significant changes going forward in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are open at City Hall, but unfortunately the doors are locked during the hours of business,” Dissette said Monday night. “We are accepting payments online, we are accepting payments through the drop box. We are, for the time being, going to be limiting shutoffs for nonpayments of utilities, but I actively encourage people to stay current on their bills.”

Dissette made the comments at the end of Monday night’s city council meeting, during which the city set up a new system with a Google doc for the public to make comments or submit questions while watching online or on the city’s cable access channel instead of going to the meeting.

“Tonight was the first night we brought the system online, and we encourage the public to stay engaged with city hall, stay engaged with the city council, but try your very best to distance yourself,” said Dissette.

The city council approved seeking several grants for parks improvements during Monday’s meeting, and set several public hearings for future meetings this spring.
