The Berrien Community Foundation is now taking applications for this year’s scholarships. Program Director Susan Matheny tells WSJM News the Berrien Community Foundation administers 43 scholarships, all started by individuals or organizations that wanted to make a difference.

“Scholarships at the Berrien Community Foundation are endowed,” Matheny said. “Generally, donors come to us with an interest in starting a scholarship for any kind of reason. Some of them are in memoriam of someone that they loved, sometimes it’s about a career path.”

There are ten new scholarships this year. Among them are a scholarship for a student who wants to pursue a career in wine making, and a scholarship for students attending a trade school. The BCF awards around $150,000 in scholarships to hundreds of students each year. The deadline to apply is March 6, and you can find the applications and scholarship descriptions at BerrienCommunity.org.
