Three meetings will be held next month by Berrien County Treasurer Bret Witkowski to get property owners signed up for tax payment plans. Witkowski tells WSJM News this is for those property owners who are behind, especially for 2017 or previous years. Those who haven’t yet paid for 2017 face foreclosure on March 31. He says he’s holding the meetings in multiple locations around the county at varying times for those who can’t make it to his office. He notes the county has made much progress in recent years with helping people avoid foreclosure.

“In addition to the invoicing system, we’ve gone to a text message and voice mail system, and we were happy with our 92% success rate, but since we’ve gone to that in the last six months, it’s gone up to over 94%,” Witkowski said.

Witkowski will be at the Watervliet Public Library from 5 to 8 p.m. on February 12, the South County Court House in Niles on February 15 from 11 to 3, and Benton Charter Township Hall on February 29 from 11 to 3. Everyone is welcome to stop by. No appointment is necessary. Witkowski wanted to thank the three county volunteers who help him hold these meetings each year.
