The first baby born in southwest Michigan in 2020 didn’t wait too long after the new year began to make his appearance. Ryker Zavoral was born at 12:59 a.m. on January 1 at Lakeland Hospital Niles to Ashley Swisher and Austin Zavoral of Buchanan. The newborn was six pounds, four ounces, and measured 18 and a quarter inches long. As part of the tradition of celebrating the first baby of the new year, the family has been given a gift basket of baby items valued at $100 by the Lakeland Auxiliary.
