It won’t be long before sports betting and online gambling will be legal in Michigan. Bills to allow it through the state’s casinos have made their way to Governor Whitmer.

“I do plan to sign it,” says the governor of the package of bills. “I do believe it has hit my desk. My legal team is reviewing it, and I’ll probably sign it before the week is over.”

State Representative Brandt Iden was the main sponsor of the package, and had similar bills vetoed by former Governor Rick Snyder. The Kalamazoo County Republican expects things may be up and running by March, in time for people to place bets in Michigan on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Long just the domain of Nevada and New Jersey, 17 states now have legalized some form of sports betting since a U.S. Supreme Court ruling cleared the way.
