A woman is recovering after shooting herself in the foot while in a Benton Township hotel room this week. The Benton Township Police Department says its officers were called to the Red Roof Inn on Mall Drive around 8:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a woman who had been shot. They spoke to the victim and learned she had shot herself in the foot while in her room. She was taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives found a semi-automatic handgun in the room. Police say once the investigation is finished, a report will be sent over to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office.
