Now underway is the annual Michigan Department of Natural Resources land auction. DNR resources specialist Michael Michalek tells WSJM News the agency sells off properties obtained through tax reversion to help acquire other properties or to run recreational programs. There will be a wide variety of parcels available.

“We have just under 150 properties, and they’re scattered throughout the state of Michigan,” Michalek said. “We have a large clump in Allegan County, quite a few in Newaygo and Lake counties. We also have some in the Upper Peninsula and the northern Lower Peninsula.”

Many of the Allegan County properties are near Lower Scott Lake. There will also be one in Van Buren County, near I-196 in the Covert area. Michalek says the DNR land auction is done largely online. The bidding started on December 10 and will end January 8. You can find the listed properties at the DNR’s website.
