Work will soon be underway to transform a former Whirlpool property at 150 Hilltop Road in St. Joseph into the new corporate headquarters for United Federal Credit Union. The financial organization has hired Benton Harbor-based Pearson Construction Company to be the general contractor for the renovations. Chief operating officer Stacy Fillmore tells WSJM News the decision to go with Pearson was an easy one.
“Pearson really understands what it means to call southwest Michigan home,” Fillmore said. “They understand our desire for an inspiring work environment for current and future employees that’s focused on collaboration, wellness, and innovation.”
Wellness is a key word there, as Fillmore says the new headquarters will have a fitness center along with a cafeteria and the advantage of having more employees under one roof in the same facility. United bought the building in April and received approval this summer from the St. Joseph City Commission for the project. The work is expected to take a year to complete.
