Set for this Saturday is the region’s premier summer snowmobile race. To be held at Nimby Pond in Buchanan, the Snowmobile Watercross Race will feature dozens of the winter machines, says Nimby Pond’s Mark Schutze.

“It’ a drag race across a 600 foot long pond by two snowmobiles,” Schutze said. “Most of them make it.”

But not all of them make it across the pond. In those cases, they sink.

“We’ve got a barge with a winch on it. We’ll pull them out. Everybody loves a little sinker.”

Schutze tells WSJM News they’ve been doing these snowmobile races at the pond for 13 years now. A race last month attracted 78 sleds from all over the Midwest. Anyone who wants to go and check out the action this Saturday can stop by from noon until about 6 p.m. Schutze says you can bring a cooler, a chair, and whatever else you like and get in for $15 per adult. Also on hand will be food vendors, a bounce house, and face painters. You can find out more at the Facebook page of Nimby Pond.
