The ink is drying on the contract for new St. Joseph Public Schools superintendent Dr. Thomas Bruce. The school board unanimously approved a three-year contract Thursday morning, with an annual salary of $158,000. His first official day on the job will be in two weeks on August 15 as he takes over for Ann Cardon.

Dr. Bruce and his family are currently in the process of moving from the Los Angeles suburb of Arcadia to St. Joseph, but the district says he’s already talking to school board members and staff in order to be as ready as possible on his first day. He was chosen from a field of more than 20 applicants and is a Michigan native, growing up between Lansing and Detroit in Howell. Dr. Bruce’s career includes teaching stops in Michigan, and his wife is also a special education teacher.
