The fundraising goal for the renovated Watervliet Parcourse behind Lakeland Hospital Watervliet has been reached. Spectrum Health Lakeland tells us in the past two months, community members raised more than $35,000 in support of the newly named George and Janet Lane Parcourse, and its grand opening has been set for Friday, August 23. The parcourse is a free community fitness track that will include two quarter-mile asphalt tracks that will have four stations with professional-grade exercise equipment. Thanks to the $35,000 raised recently by the community, a match was provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation through its Public Spaces, Community Places program, totaling more than $70,000. The overall parcourse campaign raised more than $365,000. Spectrum Health Lakeland says when all is said and done, the course will be available to students, community members, and rehabilitation patients for many years to come.
