Seven months after leaving office as governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder has landed a new gig. He is starting an appointment today as a senior research fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Taubman Center for State and Local Government at Harvard University. Snyder served two terms as Michigan governor, coming to the position without having held elected office anywhere prior. Harvard cites his guidance of Detroit’s bankruptcy, which was the largest municipal bankruptcy in American history, among his top accomplishments in office. The center was created by a $15 million donation by late Detroit-area philanthropist A. Alfred Taubman in 1988. Taubman came up with the idea for shopping malls and also has buildings named for him at the University of Michigan, where he attended but did not graduate.
