Michigan’s congressional delegation is putting a renewed focus this year on stopping Asian carp from reaching Lake Michigan. At the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference, Senator Debbie Stabenow said they were encouraged by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finally releasing their report on what to do at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam in Illinois.

“The release, called the Chief’s Report, for the first time lays out very specific technologies that can be used to keep the Asian carp out of the Great Lakes,” said Stabenow.

Flanked by Republican Congressmen Fred Upton and Jack Bergman and Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and Senator Gary Peters, Stabenow said the state’s bipartisan delegation will go to the lock and dam in Joliet in July. She added she’s been encouraged by the new administration of Governor Pritzker in Illinois being willing to work with Michigan and other Great Lakes states, as former Governor Rick Snyder’s attempts to get Bruce Rauner to take any significant action never got traction.
