The Bissell Pet Foundation is doing another Empty the Shelters event across the country this weekend. Among the 52 shelters in Michigan taking part will be Berrien County Animal Control, Cass County Animal Control, Van Buren County Animal Control, and the Al-Van Humane Society on Saturday. Cats and dogs can be adopted at the shelters for just $25, with the Grand Rapids-based foundation covering the rest of the costs.

“It’s been really successful. Shelters love it,” says Bissell Pet Foundation founder Kathy Bissell. “They ask us every year to do more than what we can do, typically. So this year, for instance, we are putting a fee based along with these adoptions because it will allow us to continue this on a broader scale.”

If you adopt a dog, you will also have to pay for a license. Some shelters would require you to pre-register. For more information, go to bissellpetfoundation.org.
