There are changes in the inner workings of the office of state Senator Kim LaSata. She has named Berrien Springs native Katie Lindt-Witkowski as her new chief of staff, replacing Stephanie Bogema, who has moved over to the House to be the chief of staff for Majority Leader Triston Cole. Lindt-Witkowski was promoted from her position as Senator LaSata’s legislative director, which she had held since this session began in January.

In a statement, LaSata said she is “delighted” to promote Lindt-Witkowski to chief of staff, adding “As a native of our district, she has a connection to and understanding of our communities, and her prior legislative experience will serve us well as we tackle the big issues affecting our region and state.”

Lindt-Witkowski is a veteran of the state Legislature having previously served for six years as deputy legislative director for former Senator Goeff Hansen; as legislative assistant to former Representative Andrea LaFontaine; and as the director of development and government affairs assistant for the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association.

Sources had told WSJM News earlier this month that Bogema had resigned just four months into her tenure with LaSata. Prior to that job, she had been the chief of staff for former Senator Margaret O’Brien of Portage for six years and also worked as a legislative correspondent for Congressman Fred Upton for two years.
