M-139 Work Starts Tomorrow

The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin a repaving project on M-139 in Berrien County next week. MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells WSJM News the work will be south of Benton Harbor.

“We will be repaving about 7.2 miles of M-139 from East Hinchman Road in Berrien Springs to just north of the St. Joseph River in Benton Harbor,” Schirripa said. “It really is just a repave job, so nothing terribly fancy. We’re going to grind up what’s already there, and put a new layer of pavement over the top.”

The work begins Monday and should wrap up in mid-June. Schirripa says it will result in some moving single lane closures with flag controls. As for the stretch of M-139 north of I-94 that’s in especially bad shape, Schirripa says it’s on MDOT’s radar, but funding to fix that part of the road has not been identified. Also starting next Monday will be a repaving project on 0.3 miles of M-43 in Van Buren County. It will be at 16th Avenue near South Haven. That work is part of the same $2.5 million cont
