While President Trump’s budget proposal includes cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, it’s unlikely they will be approved by Congress. So says Congressman Fred Upton, who tells WSJM News the final budget is always drafted by the legislative branch anyway.

“The president did have cuts to Medicare and Medicaid,” Upton said. “That’s not going to happen. During his campaign, he talked about not cutting Medicare and Medicaid, and this budget proposal did have those cuts. I’m sure that they’re not going to be accepted.”

Trump’s budget proposal aims to spend less on Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. Upton anticipates a lengthy budget process in Congress, and he’s confident many things in the administration’s proposal will go away. That includes a large reduction in funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
