Work is underway on the new pavilion for the Benton Harbor Farmers Market. The structure will be put into use when the market is held throughout the warmer months, says the Berrien County Health Department’s Gillian Conrad. The pavilion will be located at the corner of Sixth Street and Main Street at in Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park

“We will have vendors, farmers that are able to park on that little street, and then use the pavilion as a shelter for their produce stands,” Conrad told WSJM News.

Conrad says the Benton Harbor Farmers Market will open this year on June 26 and be held each Wednesday through September. They’re always looking for vendors.

“It’s a really wonderful, intimate sort of market because it’s all right there at City Center Park.”

The Benton Harbor Farmers Market allows the use of Bridge Cards, and Conrad says they offer activities for the kids. Something they’d like to attract this year are food trucks. The new pavilion should be ready by the start of the market. It’s being paid for by the city with a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant and Community Development Block Grants. Conrad says any vendors interested in taking part in the farmers market should reach out to its Facebook page.
