Pistons 131, Bulls 108 – Griffin scores 28, Pistons top Bulls for 5th straight win
Blake Griffin scored 17 of his 28 points in the third quarter as the Detroit Pistons routed the Chicago Bulls 131-108 Sunday for their fifth straight win.  Detroit has won 12 of 14 to take a half-game lead over Brooklyn for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons and Nets play Monday night in Brooklyn. Reggie Jackson scored 21 points for Detroit and Andre Drummond added 16 points and 15 rebounds.  The Bulls have lost four of five, including twice to Detroit in three days. Chicago played without Zach LaVine, who missed the game with a right patellar tendon strain. Wayne Selden led the Bulls with 18 points while Otto Porter Jr. and Lauri Markkanen scored 17 each.

Sixers 106, Pacers 89 – Embiid lifts 76ers past Pacers in return from knee injury
Joel Embiid had 33 points and 12 rebounds in his first game in nearly a month, leading the Philadelphia 76ers past the Indiana Pacers 106-89. Embiid returned to the lineup after being sidelined by a sore left knee. The Sixers went 4-4 without the All-Star center as they battle for a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers moved into 3rd place in the East with the win.

Panthers 6, Red Wings 1 – Panthers start fast, rout Red Wings 6-1
Aleksander Barkov reached 30 goals for the first time in his career, helping the Panthers rout the Detroit Red Wings 6-1 on Sunday.  The 23-year-old Barkov had at least 21 goals in each of the previous three seasons, but he had never got to 30 until he made it 6-1 7:44 into the third period. He also picked up his 47th assist when Jonathan Huberdeau scored the first of Florida’s three third-period goals.  Josh Brown and Dryden Hunt each scored their first NHL goal as Florida earned its second straight win since a costly six-game slide. Jamie McGinn and Frank Vatrano also scored.  Making his third NHL start, Sam Montembeault stopped 19 shots as the Panthers finished their season series against the Red Wings with a 3-0-1 record.  Thomas Vanek had a power-play goal for Detroit, which dropped to 1-7-3 in its past 11 games. Jimmy Howard had 37 saves.

NASCAR – Kyle Busch takes checkered flag
Kyle Busch tracked down pole-sitter Ryan Blaney before completing a victory in NASCAR’s Cup Series race near Phoenix. Busch passed Blaney with 16 laps to go before completing a weekend sweep at ISM Raceway in Avondale, one day after taking the Xfinity race. The back-to-back wins gave him 199 in NASCAR’s top three series. Busch has won three times in the desert, including the playoff race last fall. Martin Truex Jr. finished second, followed by Blaney, Aric Almirola and Denny Hamlin.

  • Samantha Jenkins scored a game high 21 points helping Lake Michigan College win the NCJAA District Championsip with a 67-61 win over Mid Michigan.   Jayla Bibbs added 16 for the Red Hawks, who advance to the NJCAA Division II National tournament at North Arkansas College in Harrison, AR starting on March 19.  Jenkins was also named as the tournament MVP.
