With the weather expected to quickly warm up this weekend and into next week, FEMA is advising everyone to watch their homes for signs of possible flooding. Region V Administrator James Joseph tells WSJM News low-lying areas could be affected, and the agency is keeping an eye on southwest Michigan.

“A lot of our initial actions right now are coordination with the National Weather Service and with the state emergency management partners,” Joseph said.

WNDU meteorologist David Harker tells WSJM News if there is any flooding, it would likely just affect a few areas. He’s mainly telling people to watch their basements.

“There may be some low-lying areas that happen to collect some water, or if you have some foundation issues in your basement, you may notice a little bit of water in the basement, but nothing extreme, nothing even close to what we saw last year,” Harker said.

Harker says the warm-up will be short-lived, and he’s not expecting weekend rains to be heavy. The high temperatures are expected to be in the 40s on Sunday and the 50s on Monday.
