South Haven Police will be taking 20 kids to lunch and then shopping at WalMart tomorrow as part of their annual Shop-With-A-Cop program. Officer Shawn Olney says the South Haven Public Schools give them the names of the students who could use a little Christmas cheer and have been putting forth their best efforts.

“We get the names of the kiddos, get permission from their parents, and a uniformed officer goes to the school, picks the kiddo up and takes them to lunch, and then we take them to WalMart,” Olney tells our newsroom. “They get to spend $100 on either themselves or their family for Christmas.”

The WalMart foundation pays for ten of the kids, while donations from WalMart employees in South Haven will pay for the other ten children to be able to shop. And it’s not just WalMart, as the Meijer in South Haven will host Michigan State Police troopers as they take other kids from Van Buren County shopping for Christmas tomorrow.
