The flu season is underway with confirmed cases throughout the state. As part of National Influenza Vaccination Week, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is urging residents to get a flu shot. Last year only about 40% of Michiganders got a flu shot. Dr. Eden Wells is the chief medical executive with the department. She spoke with Michigan News Network about the vaccine.

“So get out there and get your shot because we want people as protected as possible,” Wells said.

Remember — it takes about two weeks after you get vaccinated to get protection. Therefore, Wells says it’s a good idea to get a flu shot sooner rather than later.
