The Ghostlight Theater in Benton Harbor is ready to begin renovations on its Arts District building now that it’s completed the location’s purchase. Ghostlight’s Martha Hesse tells WSJM News thanks to a successful fundraising campaign, they now own the building at 101 Hinkley Street. Everything started with $50,000 and a fundraiser back in August.

“We got the MEDC match, and at the end of that party, Sue Schalon of the Schalon Foundation stood up and said they would match another $50,000, and so basically we made $150,000 in an afternoon,” Hesse said.

Hesse tells us the theater will serve as a venue for plays, musicals, recitals, cabarets, workshops, classes, banquets, and other community events. It will feature a large black box theater space, a front lobby, all new restrooms, a workshop space for set building and costume production, a backstage with dressing rooms and makeup stations, and two offices. The opening day will be in May. You can learn more about the Ghostlight Theater right here.
