A natural gas line outside the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office has been shut off after a construction crew struck and cut it this morning. The resulting gas leak prompted the relocation of several inmates at the jail and some staff members to other sections of the jail. No one had to be evacuated according to the sheriff’s department. The department adds continuous air monitoring was done inside the jail to be sure no one was put in danger from the gas leak, and there are no reports anyone fell ill. The sheriff’s department says Michigan Gas Utilities responded to make the needed emergency repairs.
