Congressman Fred Upton is hoping bi-partisanship will rule Washington once the elections are over next month. He tells WSJM News an effort to get new rules in the House to prevent bills from being held up for partisan reasons may work.

“The bi-partisan group that I’m a part of, called Problem Solvers, will have a pretty big baseball bat in terms of legislation to pursue amendments, bills,” Upton said.

Upton says this has to happen post-election.

“We’ve got to govern,” Upton said. “It’s going to be a close decision as to who controls the House, whether it’s going to be Speaker Pelosi or Speaker McCarthy, the Republican Majority Leader today. People want the dysfunction to end.”

As for his priorities if he wins re-election next year, Upton tells us one immediate priority would be to push for Yucca Mountain funding again. Yucca Mountain in Nevada was chosen by Congress to be the nation’s spent nuclear fuel repository, but it’s never been finished. Upton says the other 49 states are going to have to overrule the opposition coming from Nevada.
