Berrien County’s newest park is now open to the public. Paw Paw River County Park in Watervliet will be free to access. Berrien County Parks Director Brian Bailey told WSJM News earlier this year the new park will be similar to Galien River County Park, only smaller. It’ll offer a little something for every nature lover.

“We’ll have a barrier-free kayak launch and a canoe launch in the Paw Paw River,” Bailey said. “We’ll have a bridge that’ll go from the parking area over the Paw Paw River for pedestrian use, and over that bridge will be viewing decks.”

The park sits on former brownfield property right off M-140. It covers an area east of the road, across the river, and on an island in the Paw Paw River.

“There will be about a 90 foot bridge across the river, and it’s right near some small rapids so the sights and the sounds will be really cool,” Bailey said.

Once you get to the island, you’ll find a boardwalk, walking trails, two viewing locations that could be used for fishing, and boat access. A grand opening for Paw Paw River County Park was Thursday. You can find out more about the park right here.
